寛政4（1792）年に創業した藍商、吉田直兵衛の家。屋号を「佐直」と称し、脇町でも一、二を競った豪商であり、約600坪の敷地には江戸時代中期から後期にかけて建てられた主屋、質蔵、藍蔵など5棟が中庭を囲むように建っています。現在、市指定文化財として一般開放されており、建築様式の素晴らしさと往時の藍商の暮らしぶりをご覧いただけます。
Yoshida Family Residence
This was the house of Naobee Yoshida, who founded an indigo business in 1792. The shop was called “Sanao”, and Yoshida was one of the wealthiest merchants in Wakimachi. The estate consists of five buildings, including the main house, storehouse for pawned goods, and indigo storehouse surrounding a courtyard, built on a property about half an acre in size, during the mid-to-late Edo period. Today, it is open to the public as a municipal designated cultural property, and visitors can see both the spectacular architectural style and the lifestyle of an indigo merchant from long ago.
